Day 03 - Choose Your Solution
During our last class you began brainstorming a list of items that belong in a zombie apocalypse bug out bag. Remember, this class is not about zombies or bug out bags; it is about engineering. We're using the zombie scenario strictly to help us focus on the role of the EDP in solving any kind of problem!
Today you will have some time to take a second run at brainstorming. In your table, your list should only occupy the left-most column. Move suggestions around so that is the case. You will want about 3 dozen items (more is better).
With the brainstorming now over, it's time to assign a score to each item on your list. There are many ways of doing this, but what I recommend is that you use the first column of the table for your list of items. The second column should be a "score" column, where you assign a score to each item, from 1 to 3 (1 = essential item, 2 = valuable item, 3 = not worth packing). You will find that Google Sheets is a much better tool for this work, so copy your list into a Google Sheet named "ZA - [team color] [Bell #]" (e.g., "ZA - Red Bell 4/5") and work your analysis from there. Sort your list according to item scores. In a third column, list the approximate volume of each item. Yes, you will have to look each item up on the Internet and multiply its dimensions in inches to get to the answer required here.
If you finish early, start considering actual bags that might work as Bug Out Bags, keeping in mind that even when full of gear it must fit into a standard school locker.
