U.05 Load Management (knots)

Day 01 - Alpine Butterfly Loop

Today we're starting our new unit on load management - which is a fancy way of saying that you're going to learn how to tie 5 useful knots. Those knots will help you when you have loads you need to control (to either move or secure them) and you have a rope handy to make that happen. The first knot is the Alpine butterfly loop, which is named after the Alps, a tall mountain range in Europe. Mountain climbers like the Alpine butterfly loop because they can easily tie it in the middle of a rope and clamp carabiners holding weight (like food, backpacks, etc.) without worry that the knot will slide or lock up on them. It can also be used to isolate a damaged section of rope (by putting that section in the "knuckle line" when tying the knot).

We'll also take notes (regular notes, not Cornell notes)
