U.06 Mechanical Advantage

Day 04 - Calculate Hand Tool Mechanical Advantage

Use the image posted below to fill in Part 1 of Worksheet C. Turn in that worksheet as soon as it is complete, then get to work on the tool lab in the back of the classroom.

For the tool lab you will need to list 1-16 on a sheet of paper, allowing 3 lines per number. You will then identify a simple machine for each tool (some tools have multiple simple machines working together) and calculate the ideal mechanical advantage of each tool. "Ideal" in this case means that you will calculate the maximum possible mechanical advantage (instead of the average, real-use mechanical advantage, which would be much less). Use the metric side of the ruler when collecting measurements.
