U.11 Electromagnetism & Ohm's Law

Day 01 - Explain Electricity

Get out a sheet of graph paper; write your name on it and define current, resistance, and voltage. Obtain a copy of the electronics textbook in our classroom and turn to pages 617 and 618. Use that reference to draw the symbols assignd to the following 14 electronic components:

  1. wires (not connected)
  2. wires (connected)
  3. voltmeter
  4. ammeter
  5. SPST (single-pole single-throw) switch
  6. capacitor (fixed)
  7. DC battery
  8. speaker
  9. resistor (fixed)
  10. motor
  11. generator
  12. AC power source
  13. inductor
  14. incandescent lamp

Once you have completed this task, go to the PhET circuit simulator to derive Ohm's law (which states the relationships between voltage, current, and resistance in circuits).
