U.03 Newton's Laws of Motion

Day 02 - Rudders, elevators, & ailerons

The only source of thrust for your paper airplanes will be the initial toss from your hand. From that point forward, anything affecting the trajectory of the plane has to be determined by the shape of the plane and/or the texture of its surfaces. Your planes will ultimately have to pass 3 separate tests repeatably - meaning non-permanent adjustments between tests. On the final test for this project, I will tell you which test your plane must complete for each throw, allowing you a moment to adjust your plane before throwing it.

Define your problem in an EDP titled "Newton EDP." Then quick-prototype a plane to see how it performs in the test space. Take photos and notes. Store your prototypes in bins, which you will label using masking tape.
