Unit 03 - Energy & Matter

Energy and matter are the fundamental components of the universe, and it is worth our time to study the way the two relate to one another. Last year, in biology, you learned about ecosystems. This year, in chemistry, you learn about chemical reactions and the way molecules interact with one another when exposed to activation energy.

In this unit we will apply this knowledge to create a microbiosphere - a terrarium. You will be expected to explain to me how energy flows through your microbiosphere and how matter cycles within it - to include describing the water cycle, the nitrogen cycle, and the carbon cycle. You will be expected to know how many trophic levels are represented by our microbiospheres and what it would take to add trophic levels.
