U.07 Combustion Reactions

Day 08 - Write Up EDP Report

Your EDP documentation must include:

  1. Definition of the Problem - tell me what we were trying to achieve and what our resources and constraints were
  2. Research - tell me everything we did as a class to get ready for making candles
  3. Brainstorming - record your design for holding the wick centered over your cup for the poured candle
  4. Choose your solution - photos of your poured candles and dipped taper candles
  5. Implement your solution - data tables of the ratio of soy to palm to paraffin for each prototype, along with your observations of how each performed
  6. Evaluate your solution - explain the story told by your data - what does it mean? How do melting point and viscosity affect candle-making?

Finish your evaluation by stating what you might try next - either with poured candles or hand-dipped taper candles.

Combustion
any exothermic reaction in which oxygen combines with a fuel
Covalent Bonds
bonds formed when two atoms share at least one electron; these are the strongest molecular bonds and thus represent the most potential chemical energy
