U.04 Pneumatics

Day 02 - Design a Balloon Car

Today you should complete rough assembly of your brainstormed car and test it. Nothing fancy. Just get the balloon on there, inflate it, and see if it rolls. Open up your EDP document and record your observations - do the wheels work properly? is the car too heavy? did the balloon fly off the car? etc.

Then have your team draw up a design for your car. Submit a team sketch by the end of the bell. The sketch may be either isometric or orthographic; whichever you find easier to do is fine by me. Graph paper is available in the binders next to the tool bins.

acceleration
the rate at which an object's speed changes
compression
squeezing an object to reduce the space it occupies
intuit
to know something without prior study
Newton's laws of motion
they remind us that objects need force to change direction or velocity, and that every force in the universe is opposed by its equal; also, F=ma, or force equals mass times acceleration
pneumatics
any technology using air pressure to do work
