U.01 Vector Graphics

Day 02 - Inkscape Shapes & Fills

Class Expectations

We're going to use a piece of software called Inkscape to start out with. Later in the semester (October/November timeframe) we'll get into 3D modeling (which is also vector graphics), but for starters we're going to stick with 2D modeling. 2D modeling is great for designing signs, graphic organizers, logos, etc. We are only going to learn the basics of Inkscape; it is capable of doing a lot more than we have time to explore, but even knowing a few tricks can produce great results.

Find Inkscape on your desktop and open up the application. It probably looks a little foreign (and, thus, intimidating), but you can ignore most of the interface. We'll take it one step at a time.

In Chrome, open this link to a tutorial on using Inkscape to create a simple graphic. Walk through the instructions step-by-step and work together to make sure the person next to you is able to do everything. Get as far through this tutorial as you are able to do by the end of the bell. I'll be available to assist as you go, but while you are waiting for me to get to you be sure to work with the people around you to see if they can get you moving in the right direction!
