Day 04 - Choose a Periodic Table Design
Last week you brainstormed up ideas for how to construct a periodic table of the elements that concentrated on the first 20 elements. When we were making our alternate periodic tables, we considered ourselves fortunate to be able to track just 2 variables at once. As it turns out, the periodic table of elements tracks a lot more than just two variables. There are the key concepts you will want your design to reflect:
- atomic symbols
- atomic names
- atomic numbers
- atomic weights
- valence electron counts
- trends
- atomic radius
- electronegativity
- ionization energy
- electron affinity
- melting point
- metallic character
Based on that information, you want to make intelligent use of color and shape. You may wish to layer your table (adding folds or flip tabs) so that it can change the kind or amount of information it is displaying at any given time.
Once your team has made its decision, assemble your materials and get to work.
