U.02 Periodic Table

Day 06 - Evaluate Table

Now that your table is complete, it is time to treat it as a prototype ready for testing. Use the criteria I provided earlier to construct a rubric with three tiers of possibility:

Then fill out the rest of your rubric with the requirements I gave you initially:

  1. atomic symbols
  2. atomic names
  3. atomic numbers
  4. atomic weights
  5. valence electron counts
  6. trends
    • atomic radius
    • electronegativity
    • ionization energy
    • electron affinity
    • melting point
    • metallic character

And then evaluate your rubric against these standards. If anything falls into the middle category, that's where you need to focus for refining the design. You will notice that even if all of your information is complete and correct, you'd still receive a 6/12 if it is hard to read. Design is vital; a poorly-design sign in many cases is worse than no sign at all. (HINT: If you gave your table all "Perfect" scores, you did yourself a disservice; no prototype ever achieves full perfection, even after many iterations.)

To help you out, your rubric should end up looking something like this:
