U.09 Soap

Day 02 - History of Soap

Today we're taking Cornell notes on the history and functions of soap. Along the way, you will also define lye (NaOH) as a chemical agent and explain the importance of ratios and scaling (which, after all, is why we began this unit with a factor-label method review).

In your individual folder on Google Drive, make a Google Doc titled "soap" and set it up for Cornell notes. Using Google search, track down essential facts about the history of soap. Be sure to understand the role of ash in early production methods and what specific chemical was in the ash that facilitated saponification.
